High up on the Franschhoek Pass, Morena is a boutique winery focused on one thing: quality sparkling wines made in the Methode Cap Classique style. Owned and run by the charismatic Nic Davies, their limited production allows them to ensure every bottle of Morena is exceptional, which has also built this family winery a small but very loyal following.
Their Morena Brut Rosé is crisp and dry with plenty of citrus flavours on the palate. A blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, it spends 2 years on the lees to develop greater complexity and while delicious now would drink beautifully in a few years too. With summer here and the festive season closing in, this could be the perfect wine to start the celebrations with.
Jean’s thoughts:
Pink, crisp and sparkling and from Franschhoek! Summer bubbly to be served very cold. Put a few in the cellar and you might be surprised in a few years...
Marc’s thoughts:
A classic Brut Rosé, with appealing salmon colour, deliciously fruity yet dry and fresh on the finish. This wine beckons on a warm day!
Price at Caveau: R206 per bottle
