Caveau Wine Bar & Deli
Find it hard to imagine mixing stylish, classic and affordable with high-class and non-pretentious? Not if you are Jean-Yves Muller (former manager of The Bascule) and Brendon Crew (former manager of one. waterfront) and Marc Langlois (former manager at The Mount Nelson Hotel), the reasons Caveau manages to pull off this seemingly impossible combination with effortless flair and selfless chivalry.
After sweeping up the romantic antique cellars in the famous Heritage Square building in mid 2003 to open the first Caveau, a restaurant that has achieved huge success, these food and wine ‘passionistas’, spread their wings and opened Caveau at The Mill in early 2007. Situated inside the national landmark of Josephine Mill in Newlands, Cape Town, Caveau at The Mill is a restaurant, bar and function venue set in exquisite surroundings in the southern suburbs.
Bringing the Wine Route to your doorstep
The concept behind this intimate wine bar and deli not only afforded the seasoned and enterprising professionals an opportunity to bring the wine route to your doorstep, but to cheekily break outmoded traditions taking taste to where no bud has been before.
Open Tuesday to Sunday
Open Tuesday to Saturday (8am - 10pm) for both continental and full breakfasts, lunch and dinner, and open Sundays for brunch (10am - 3pm), Caveau at The Mill, situated on Boundary Road in Newlands, offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Cape Town, so whether you have half an hour or a full day to while away, Jean and Brendon invite you to share in their passion.
We look forward to seeing you soon … until then, keep swirling!
"A literary, epicurean and gastronomic society was founded in Paris in 1729 by Piron, Colle, Galle and Crebillon the younger, during a dinner at Landelle's famous restaurant, Le Caveau, in Rue Buci. Boucher, Rameau and Maurepas were also members.
The rules of this society were strict: Any member who lacked decorum during the discussions had to drink water."
