 ABOUT US

Wine Bar

The hosts’ philosophy behind Caveau is that they want their guests to drink quality wines all the time and to assist with this, they have brought down the mark-up on the more expensive wines.

After selecting good wines for their character as much as their quality, Caveau’s wine list presents these wines in categories of mood and context, not simply based on variety. With light-hearted categories such as “Time out wines” or “Rich and robust”, you can choose a wine for winding down, revving up or according to different styles of food.

Unique and practical, the list allows guests to enjoy some of the finest selections from the Cape wine route while also encouraging new wines. This approachable format fits with Caveau’s philosophy that at the end of the day, wine is made to be enjoyed, not to confuse people.

Wine Bar

Deli

No visit will be complete without a hedonistic free-fall into Caveau’s seductive selection of local cheeses and cured meats, where the delights on offer have been carefully selected to compliment the wines in true French style.

Although die-hard favourites like beef cubes and béarnaise, lamb samoosa’s with tzatziki and prawn tempura are always available, Caveau’s menu changes daily. Offering a range of tapas and main course options, each dish is made from only the freshest ingredients sourced from top suppliers in the Cape. Caveau’s relationship with these suppliers ensures mouth-watering selections through the seasons.

Undoubtedly, you will encounter some firsts in this deli, and the purveyors of these fine foods will be only too happy to challenge your palates.

But beware! Certain of these delicacies are not for the cholesterolly well endowed!

Wine Cellar

Caveau’s star attraction is a temperature controlled cellar, crammed with the Cape’s boutique best, accessed separately from street level, so every bottle opened is guaranteed to have experienced the feeling of being adorned with one- hundred -percent authentic Heritage Square cellar-dust. You will also be hard pressed to find many of our older wines anywhere else! Petit Caveau

Having obtained our alcohol trading license, Caveau is able to serve as a wine merchant as well as wine bar and deli. At Caveau Deli you will be able to buy wines that appear on our wine list and even some that don't! From time to time we may even be lucky enough to get our hands on something really special!! Sign up for our newsletter to find out more…

In the mean time however, if there are any wines on our wine list that you would like to have for your own private collection but that you may be battling to find elsewhere, please do not hesitate to contact us and we shall try to source it for you.

Our Mission

"In water one sees one's own face; But in wine one beholds the heart of another."

French Proverb

Aside from the essence of this quote, much of the philosophy behind Caveau lies in Brendon, Jean and Marc’s desire to share their expertise in the vast array of interesting wines that our beautiful country has to offer.
